The Cleveland Browns (0-12) have dropped their 13th consecutive loss as they lose to the Los Angeles Chargers (6-6) by a final score of 19-10.

Philip Rivers was dominant once again for LA as he threw for 344 yards and a touchdown as he picked apart the Browns defense throughout the game on Sunday. He connected with seven different receivers and never made the game seem close for Cleveland to have a chance.

Keenan Allen led the way for the Chargers receivers with 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. Former Brown Travis Benjamin had 4 catches for 68 yards and tight end Hunter Henry made 7 catches for 81 yards.

Melvin Gordon had 19 carries for 77 yards (4.1 ypc) and also added 4 catches for 29 yards.

As for the Browns offense, DeShone Kizer once again took two steps back after taking a step forward last week against Cincinnati. He was inaccurate throughout the game and couldn’t seem to find a consistent rhythm against a tough Chargers defense.

Kizer finished the game 15 of 32 for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was also strip sacked by former Buckeye Joey Bosa which led to another turnover.

Josh Gordon made his long awaited return and made an impact early and often. He was targeted 11 times and made 4 catches for 85 yards in his first game in 1,078 days.

The chemistry between Kizer and Gordon isn’t there despite practicing together for two weeks and at times you could see frustration with Gordon because Kizer was underthrowing it when Gordon would have separation.

David Njoku also made some big plays for the Browns offense and set a rookie franchise record in the process. Njoku had four catches for 74 yards including a  touchdown which set the Browns rookie tight end record with his fourth touchdown of the season.

The defensive scheme continues to be terrible for the Browns. They’re continuously leave the middle of the field open and Philip Rivers was smart enough to recognize that and exploited it all game long.

Gregg Williams refuses to bring the safeties closer to the line of scrimmage even when Peppers was out and Kai Nacua took over at free safety, he was still lining him up 25-30 yards deep in coverage.

I want to say I can’t wait for Williams along with Hue Jackson to leave Cleveland but I have serious doubts any coaching changes are going to be made.

On the injury front, safety Jabrill Peppers suffered a knee injury and didn’t return. Defensive tackle Danny Shelton suffered a rib injury and also didn’t return.

With the loss, the 2016-17 Cleveland Browns are now the second team in NFL history to start 0-12 in back to back seasons, joining the 1976-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hue Jackson is now 1-27 as the head coach of the Browns, the worst start for a head coach with a team in NFL history.

They head back to Cleveland next week to take on the Green Bay Packers (6-6) who are still in the playoff hunt despite Aaron Rodgers sidelined with a broken collarbone. Brett Hundley has stepped up and has been performing well the last couple of weeks.
