Browns Draft Zane Gonzalez

The Browns just drafted a kicker.

With the 224th selection in the seventh round, they selected Zane Gonzalez out of Arizona State.

He’s the top rated kicker in the NFL Draft according to NFL.com

Gonzalez holds the record for most field goals in FBS history with 96 during his college career. He was also the Lou Groza Award winner in 2016 for the nation’s best kicker.

During his four seasons at Arizona State, he was 96 of 116 (83%) on field goal attempts and 204 of 209 (97%) on extra point attempts. He scored 494 points, the fourth most in NCAA history.

Obviously, the Browns haven’t had a long term answer at kicker since Phil Dawson left after the 2013 season. Last year they had Cody Parkey who missed three field goals in his first game with the Browns but hit 20 of 25 field goal attempts during the season.

I would imagine Parkey and Gonzalez will have a competition in training camp for the job unless they cut Parkey and give Gonzalez the position from the start.
