Browns Draft Matthew Dayes

With their final pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns selected running back Matthew Dayes out of North Carolina State.

He was second team All-ACC in his final year with the Wolfpack after rushing for 1,166 yards and ten touchdowns.

In 2015, he was limited to just nine games before suffering a turf toe injury. Prior to the injury he rushed for 865 yards and at the time he was leading college football with 12 rushing touchdowns.

In 2014, he rushed for 573 yards, he also had 321 receiving yards and also had 384 kick return yards. He was one of three players in college football who had at least 300 yards in all three categories that season.

His freshman season he only ran for 252 yards but had four touchdowns.

He’s solid as a pass catcher out of the backfield as well.

  • 2013-10 catches
  • 2014-32 catches
  • 2015-24 catches
  • 2016-32 catches

He played for the Browns coaching staff in the Senior Bowl so he obviously caught the eye of Hue Jackson and running backs coach Kirby Wilson.

Dayes will likely compete with George Atkinson and Darius Jackson for the third running back spot in training camp.
