Buckeyes land Alonzo Gaffney

After a great season for Buckeye hoop fans with new coach Chris Holtmann, it seems like things are changing for the better in Columbus as five star junior SF/PF Alonzo Gaffney commited to The Ohio State University.

Gaffney averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks per game for Garfield Heights as they finished with an 18-6 record and ultimately lost in the district finals this past season.

Gaffney had cut his list down to Ohio State, North Carolina and Louisville. He made his decision on Tuesday afternoon and it’s a huge get for Coach Holtmann and Ohio State

You want to keep kids at home as a coach, Chris Holtmann did just that by landing Gaffney.

The Garfield Heights star is ranked the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio for the 2019 class.

He’s ranked the third best power forward in the nation, and the 18th ranked player nationally. Gaffney is also rated the 7th best SF in the nation so it’ll be interesting to see where he plays as a Buckeye.

The commitment of Alonzo Gaffney is going to stir up the pot in recruitment for the Buckeyes. He’s a huge landing for them, and this could be the start to a very good class for this coaching staff.

To say this isn’t a huge landing for Ohio State is an understatement. It’s the highest rated recruit the Buckeyes have landed since D’Angelo Russell and the highest in-state recruit since Jared Sullinger.

It’s also the first five star recruit Holtmann has ever landed as both an assistant coach as well as head coach.
