Introducing Akron Zips guard Daniel Utomi

The 2017-2018 season is underway for the Akron Zips and through five games they sit at 3-2.

One player who has made an impact like no other is Akron’s 6’6 215 pound guard Daniel Utomi.

Utomi is averaging 22 PPG, 6.8 RPG along with 1.8 APG. From the field Utomi is shooting the ball very efficiently at 51.4%

Utomi has shown multiple skills from defending on the perimeter to having good size and strength to help his effort in the post with help defense, he has every tool to become a fine player at the next level.

Utomi’s outside shooting has really stood out to me in all five games, shooting it from deep at 54%. Daniel shows no signs of weakness in his ability to get shots up and doesn’t seem to be affected when contested heavily. Utomi is attempting eight three point shots a game which shows how efficient he is from downtown with his impressive percentage.

Daniel has made a huge improvement from the free throw line this year jumping his percentage up by 15%, sitting currently at 84% on the year.

What do I see from Daniel Utomi game by game? An improvement from his last, if we go by the numbers:

Utomi’s averages from last year: 4.8 PPG, 1.2 RPG and 0.3 APG

Daniel obviously worked hard in the offseason to earn himself twenty more minutes a game and it looks like it all paid off.

Utomi needs to be looked at as a big time guard with a high ceiling that can be a fantastic player at the next level, I’ve enjoyed watching him grow to this point. It’s time for the scouts and national media too as well.

The sky is the limit for Utomi, and I am very excited to watch his progression lead him to the next level.
