Browns Draft DeShone Kizer

The Cleveland Browns finally took their quarterback but it’s not the one people were expecting.

They pulled the trigger on Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer with the 52nd overall pick in the second round on Friday night. I’m absolutely shocked about the selection because I didn’t think that the Browns would select Kizer, there was literally no buzz about him and the Browns.

He’s got the physical tools you want in an AFC North quarterback, he’s got the arm to make any throw and also can take off and scramble if pressured.

However, he’s still raw as a prospect and will need time to be developed by Hue Jackson and quarterback coach David Lee. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com says he needs to work on his vision and ball placement.

I’ve also heard some analysts say Kizer doesn’t have the “mental makeup” to be an NFL quarterback which is concerning. He told reporters that he has Tom Brady’s brain in Cam Newton’s body. I find it concerning hearing quarterbacks run their mouths, I’d rather them just let their play do the talking.

This could be the Browns franchise quarterback of the future if he can sit behind Cody Kessler and Brock Osweiler for at least a season. Selecting Kizer also could spell the end of any potential trades involving New England’s Jimmy Garoppolo or Cincinnati’s AJ McCarron whom have been tied to Cleveland all offseason.

I like that the Browns were patient and let the quarterback come to them instead of forcing it, I just hope they’re patient with Kizer and not throw him in too early like they’ve done in the past with other quarterbacks.
