The team announced on Sunday that they signed catcher Roberto Perez to a four year extension. This include two club options for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

The deal guarantees Perez $9 million through the first four seasons, the club options are for $5.5 million in 2021 and $7 million in 2022.

This guarantees 20 of the current 25 man roster is with the team through the end of the 2018 season 

The 28 year old has been with the organization since being drafted in the 33rd round of the 2008 draft. He made his big league debut in 2014 and has been there since as a part time catcher. 

He’s not the greatest hitter but he makes up for it with his arm behind the plate. His career fielding percentage is 99.3% and has assisted on 95 outs over his three seasons. Between him and Yan Gomes, the catcher’s position is locked down for the near future in Cleveland.

Last season, he played in 61 regular season games. He hit .183 with 3 home runs and 17 RBIs. Over his career he’s a .220 hitter with 11 home runs and 42 RBIs.

In the postseason he was the full time catcher and he had some big hits in the postseason.

In Game One of the ALDS, he hit one of three home runs in the third inning that helped propel the Tribe to a 5-4 victory over Boston.

In Game One of the World Series, Perez hit two home runs and drove in four runs against the Chicago Cubs to help beat them 6-0. 

He was the fifth catcher in World Series history to hit two home runs in a game and the first since Gary Carter in 1986.
