One of the new potential playmakers for the Cleveland Browns offense will be missing at least the start of training camp due to a serious illness.

Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin was placed on the non-football illness list on Friday after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs and legs after a recent medical checkup. Goodwin told the Browns team website that he was “feeling discomfort in his legs and slight shortness of breath during organized team activities in the spring.”

Goodwin signed with the Browns during the offseason as an unrestricted free agent and was expected to potentially play a role in the wide receiver room and bring some serious speed as the former Olympian track star has averaged 16.2 yards per catch throughout his ten-year NFL career.

He’ll continue to be around the team and be involved in meetings during training camp with the hopes he’ll be able to return to the football field once doctors clear him.

This isn’t the first time this medical illness has happened to a member of the Cleveland Browns. Former Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston had blood clots in his lungs following an injury in the 2012 season and Pinkston ended up having to retire in 2014 after another bout of blood clots.

The Browns also announced on Friday that wide receivers Mike Woods (Achilles) and Anthony Schwartz (hamstring) along with offensive lineman Colby Gossett (foot) were added to the non-football injury list but still have active spots on the 90-man roster.
