Browns trade Shon Coleman to 49ers

The Cleveland Browns are in the process of trimming their roster to 53 and plenty of roster moves will be made over the next few days.

On Friday night, they sent offensive tackle Shon Coleman to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2019 seventh round pick.

Coleman was likely to be one of the final roster cuts that had to be done by 4 pm Saturday.

He was the team’s third-round pick in 2016 out of Auburn and never showed much of his potential during his two-year stint with the Browns.

Missing much of his rookie season while rehabilitating a knee injury he suffered during the pre-draft process, Coleman appeared in seven games during the 2016 season.

In 2017, he was the starting right tackle in all 16 games but didn’t fare too well on the right side of the offensive line. Pro Football Focus graded him ”below average” and was ranked the 56th overall tackle in football.

With Joe Thomas’ retirement during the offseason, Coleman got the first crack at grabbing the left tackle starting position, and held it throughout the spring.

Once training camp started though, it seemed like his performance didn’t sit well with the coaching staff and they didn’t have the patience either.

Within a week of camp, Coleman went from starting left tackle to backup right tackle and his confidence and production dipped significantly.

The Browns managed to find a team that was interested in Coleman and was able to collect a draft pick in the process. Now Coleman gets a fresh start with the 49ers and hopefully can revive his career in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
