The Browns (0-10) hung in there all the way till the end but lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars (7-3) by a final score of 19 to 7.
DeShone Kizer threw two interceptions and fumbled twice (one of which resulted in a Jacksonville touchdown) under two minutes to go which sealed the fate for Cleveland who has now lost 11 games in a row dating back to last season.
Kizer finished the game 16 of 32 for 179 yards, 1 touchdown and of course those two interceptions.
The Browns defense played a very good game and gave themselves a chance to win with three forced fumbles, two sacks and seven pass deflections.
James Burgess had a career game with 16 tackles (7 solo, 3 for a loss) and a sack. Christian Kirksey had 13 tackles (8 solo) and a sack and Schobert added 11 tackles (5 solo).
Corey Coleman made his return after missing seven games with a broken hand and made an impact on offense with a career high six catches for 80 yards.
Duke Johnson had six offensive touches for 66 yards and a touchdown which came on a beautiful 27 yard throw from Kizer that connected for the only scoring play for Cleveland. It’s amazing that he doesn’t get the ball more when he continues to make plays.
The Browns running game which many thought could repeat their performance from a week ago was stalled by Jacksonville’s defense for just 50 yards on 18 carries. Jacksonville came in giving up over 120 yards per game on the ground but once again Hue Jackson refused to run the ball despite the bad weather conditions.
Some would’ve thought that after last week’s performance of the running game against Detroit which saw Cleveland have 201 yards on 33 carries that maybe Jackson finally figured it out that Kizer will perform better if he has the running game to lean on but clearly he still hasn’t figured it out.
Leonard Fournette chewed up the Browns run defense and became the first to rush over 100 yards in a game this season against Cleveland. He had 28 carries for 111 yards and Jacksonville rushed for 139 yards total against the defense that was giving up 86.4 yards per game coming in.
Yannick Ngakoue led the way defensively for Jacksonville with 2.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles including the final one which Telvin Smith recovered in the end zone for a touchdown with 1:14 left in the game. Calais Campbell, Malik Jackson and Dante Fowler Jr. combined for the other 2.5 sacks the Jaguars got on Kizer.
Browns had a number of injuries hit them during the game.
Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah who was starting to come on as a player suffered a broken foot and will likely miss the rest of the season.
Defensive tackle Jamie Meder suffered an ankle injury in the first half and didn’t return.
Wide receiver Sammie Coates suffered a knee and ankle injury in the first half and didn’t return.
The Browns will travel to Cincinnati next week to face the 3-6 Bengals who are currently in the middle of their Week 11 matchup against Denver.
DeShone Kizer will remain the starting quarterback despite his multiple turnover game. Head coach Hue Jackson told reporters after the game he needs to see Kizer the rest of the way to determine if he’s “the guy”.
