It’s evident that Jimmy Haslam will once again make changes at the end of the season in the Cleveland Browns organization.

It sounds like he’s getting a head start on that.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk and NBC Sports is reporting that the organization is searching for a football executive to join the front office.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the 0-6 Browns (1-21 since the start of last season) have begun reaching out to candidates to potentially join the organization’s front office. The Browns currently are targeting football executives, and for good reason.

This coincides with FOX Sports Jay Glazer’s report of last week that Peyton Manning could end up in the Browns front office next season in some type of position.

Anyone has to believe that Jimmy Haslam isn’t happy with the way this season and the current plan and wants to make a change of some sort.

Florio added that it isn’t sure if the Browns would add someone into what’s already there or if there would be a subtraction or subtractions to the football operations department.

Currently in place is:

• Executive Vice President of Football Operations Sashi Brown
• Chief Strategy Office Paul DePodesta
• Vice Presidents of Player Personnel Andrew Berry and Ken Kovash
• Senior Personnel Executive Ryan Grigson

If he wants a “football guy”, there’s two already in Berea with Berry and Grigson. The plan isn’t working.

Gutting the roster and stockpiling draft picks sounded like a great idea at first but when you realize a lawyer and former baseball executive are running your football operations, it’s not such a great idea.

They have added some talent but when they’ve completely botched the most important position in sports, the quarterback position. 

Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz are dominating the league while they’ve had Robert Griffin III, Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and DeShone Kizer out there and accumulated a 1-21 record in the process.

If Haslam is looking at making a change, I wouldn’t think that he’d add another person into the current setup. He would clean house in the front office and hire someone like Manning as a team president who would then hire a general manager to build the roster, draft players and sign free agents.

Obviously if that were to take place, head coach Hue Jackson’s job has to be in jeopardy because Manning or whomever Haslam were to hire would want to hire his own head coach that can co-exist with the front office, something this organization hasn’t had since Mike Holmgren, Tom Heckert and Pat Shurmur were in place during the 2011-2012 seasons.

Florio also added it wasn’t known when changes were going to happen, could happen after the team’s game against Minnesota in London, England during the bye week or the changes won’t happen until the season is over.

With rumors now coming weekly, they say where there’s smoke, there’s fire and the smoke is starting to billow out of Berea.
