Two more key players of the Cleveland Browns will not suit up against the New York Giants on Monday night.
Running back Isaiah Crowell (groin) and defensive end Nate Orchard (groin) join a list of players who will not play in the team’s second preseason game.
Crowell is the team’s starting running back and ran for just 15 yards on six carries last week against New Orleans in the preseason opener.
Orchard is a guy on the bubble to make the roster but he showed he fits Gregg Williams’ defense when he recorded 2 tackles and 0.5 sacks in his disruptive performance last week.
The team said they both suffered the injuries in practice on Thursday and that they’re just being precautionary to prevent any further injury.
Duke Johnson Jr. will start in place of Crowell at running back and I’d expect rookie Matthew Dayes to get an extended look along with Terrance Magee.
Other inactives for the Browns against the Giants include
- S Ibrahiem Campbell (concussion)
- CB Marcus Burley (face laceration)
- CB Howard Wilson (knee)
- S Ed Reynolds (knee)
- DT Danny Shelton (knee)
- DE Cam Johnson (knee)
- OL Gabe Ikard (concussion)
- OL Joe Thomas (rest)
- OL Joel Bitonio (knee)
- OL Cam Erving (calf)
- DL Caleb Brantley (shoulder)
