Leading up to the NFL Draft, I’ll be looking back at past draft picks by the Browns based on the picks they currently hold in the 2017 Draft. 

Today we’re looking at the 145th pick which the Browns have held twice previously.

1983-TE Tim Stracka, Wisconsin

Stracka was a sixth round pick in the 1983 Draft which was more known for the quarterbacks like John Elway, Dan Marino and Jim Kelly.

He was an average tight end at Wisconsin and was a bit undersized at 6’3, 225 lbs.

He only played two seasons in the NFL, both with Cleveland and never showed any potential.

2006-RB Jerome Harrison, Washington St.

An All-American at Washington State his senior season when he ran for 1,900 yards and averaged 6.2 yards per carry, Harrison was selected in the fifth round of the 2006 draft by the Browns.

Playing only as a backup behind Jamal Lewis for a couple seasons, he finally got his opportunity in the 2009 season. He started 7 of the 14 games he played in and rushed for 862 yards and five touchdowns. 

His last three games of the 2009 season was the best three game set I seen by a Browns running back in my ten years as a fan. 

• Week 15 against Kansas City: 34 carries for 286 yards (team record) and three touchdowns
• Week 16 against Oakland: 39 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown 
• Week 17 against Jacksonville: 33 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown 
• Total: 106 carries for 561 yards and five touchdowns

Browns fans thought they had found another franchise running back. Well Peyton Hillis came into town and knocked Harrison off his thrown at the start of the 2010 season.

Cleveland traded Harrison to Philadelphia four games in and he spent time with the Eagles and Detroit before tragedy struck.

In October of 2011, it was revealed that doctors discovered a brain tumor. They performed surgery but the tumor had blood vessels surrounding it which led to problems including seizures, blood clots and a stroke. 

He was profiled on the CBS pregame show on Thanksgiving 2012 talking about his recovery. Doctors told Harrison and his family that he was going to be a quadriplegic but Harrison fought and regained some of his motor abilities.
