It’s another week and another mock here for the Cleveland Browns.
We now know that Tommy Rees will be the offensive coordinator and it’s pretty clear that Kevin Stefanski will be going back to his style of offense and most likely will be the signal caller for the 2025 season.
Rees has a history with one of the top quarterbacks in this draft class in Jalen Milroe. The Browns will get a up close chance to evaluate and work with Milroe at the Senior Bowl as Special Teams Coordinator Bubba Ventrone will be the head coach for one of the teams during the week long event.
Let’s see how this mock draft will shake out in the simulation which once again we’re using the NFL Mock Draft Database Simualtor.
Round One
*TRADE* Cleveland trades the 2nd overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for the 6th overall pick, the 68th and 142nd overall picks and 2026 first-round and fourth-round picks.
Pick 6: Abdul Carter, EDGE, Penn State: If there was no trade and the Browns stayed at two, Carter would’ve still been the pick. Pairing Carter up with Myles Garrett along with Alex Wright and Isaiah McGuire would set the Browns pass rushing group up to be one of the best for the next several years. There’s some worried about his size but if you look at his height and weight alone, he’s in comparison with the likes of TJ Watt and Micah Parsons.
Round Two
Pick 33: Wyatt Milum, Offensive Tackle: Jalen Milroe was selected at the back end of Round One so I don’t want to reach on another quarterback at this point so I’ll address the offensive line here by selecting Milum. We’ll see during Senior Bowl Week how he matches up as either a tackle or a guard but Milum held down the left tackle spot at West Virginia very well during his collegiate career. Cleveland must find their future at left tackle with Jed Wills leaving via free agency and Dawand Jones being a liability with his injury history.
Round Three
Pick 67: Harold Fannin Jr., Tight End, Bowling Green: With no wide receiver of my liking on the board and because I’m a huge fan of Fannin, the pick was a no brainer here. Fannin is explosive as a tight end and put up some incredible numbers this past season at Bowling Green. Not the best at blocking but neither was David Njoku when he came out in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Pick 68: Xavier Watts, Safety, Notre Dame: The Browns need to find their free safety for the future at some point early in this draft and Watts could definitely be one of those guys and will be up for a big test Monday night in the National Championship game against Ohio State. He is excellent in coverage and being a former wide receiver, Watts showed his great ball instincts throughout this season intercepting seven passes and also has shown the knack to be physical as well with his tackling.
Pick 93: Cam Skattebo, Running Back, Arizona State: I’ve mentioned it several times, but this running back class is so deep, and the Browns could take one at any point in this draft and I’d believe the player could be an immediate contributor. Skattebo’s physical style of running would win him over with the Browns fan base instantly because of the history of the power backs in the franchise such as Jim Brown, Nick Chubb, and Peyton Hillis. Skattebo also is a threat out of the backfield as a receiver and would be a nice compliment to Jerome Ford.
Round Four
Pick 102: Will Howard, Quarterback, Ohio State: Now if I would’ve been doing a mock draft during the college football regular season, there wouldn’t have been a chance I would have selected Will Howard for the Browns. However, Howard has looked much different during the College Football Playoff, and I think that’s improved his draft stock.
Now credit goes to the talent around him, and he has immense talent on that Buckeye offense, but Howard deserves credit as well. He’s been accurate throwing the ball both under pressure and when being blitzed and has been taking care of the football (10 interceptions in 402 pass attempts). If he has another great performance against Notre Dame and leads the Buckeyes to the title, his case for being one of the top five quarterbacks in the draft will only continue to grow.
Round Five
Pick 142: Cobee Bryant, Cornerback, Kansas: The Browns add a cornerback in every draft cycle whether it’s with a draft pick or signing an undrafted free agent, so it won’t be surprising when they add one in this draft class. Bryant is undersized but he’s a versatile cornerback who can play both outside and inside. Not the best tackler but solid in coverage.
Pick 167: Atwaun Powell-Ryland, EDGE, Virginia Tech: You can never have enough pass rushers and Powell-Ryland is one of the intriguing Day 3 prospects. Potentially undersized like Abdul Carter, Powell-Ryland was disruptive as a pass rush for the Hokies with 97 pressures and 24 sacks over the last two seasons.
Round Six
Pick 190: J.J. Pegues, Defensive Tackle, Ole Miss: The Browns could look to add another young piece to the defensive tackle room with Shelby Harris and Dalvin Tomlinson getting older and potentially could be guys the team moves off of this offseason. Pegues is solid as a run defender but has shown displays as a pass rusher (28 pressures in 2022, 30 pressures in 2024).
Pick 198: Pat Bryant, Wide Receiver, Illinois: The Browns are losing Elijah Moore to free agency so they will likely add a couple guys into the room this offseason. Bryant is a big, physical receiver who was great in the vertical game (12 catches for 389 yards and six touchdowns when targeted 20+ yards). Worth the lotto ticket towards the end of the draft.
Pick 214: Jaeden Roberts, Guard, Alabama: The Browns have their potential future at left guard in 2024 third-round pick Zak Zinter but behind Wyatt Teller, there’s no semblance of future at right guard. Roberts was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide allowing only four sacks in 537 pass-blocking snaps. He is also solid as a run-blocker where he’s been described as a “road-grader”.
Pick 215: Phil Mafah, Running Back, Clemson: Because of the depth of this running back class, I wouldn’t be opposed to the Browns taking two running backs to revamp the entire position room. Mafah is another physical, downhill runner with the potential to be a solid receiver out of the backfield. If the Browns move on from Nick Chubb, a room of Ford, Skattebo, and Mafah could be a nice room to go running back by committee with.
Round Seven
Pick 256: Tyreem Powell, Linebacker, Rutgers: Powell is a development type at the linebacker position but with his physical tools (6’5, 252 lbs), he could be that big, physical linebacker Browns fans have been pining for as a run stopper and with his length, be someone could be disruptive in coverage in the middle of the defense.
