It’s Draft Week and it’s as good of a time as ever to dive back into the past of the Cleveland Browns and their previous selections at each of the 2024 picks the team currently holds (54, 85, 156, 206, 227, 243).
The Browns have held the 54th pick twice in franchise history and unfortunately, neither player provided any form of impact in the course of their individual NFL careers.
1964: Don Shackelford, Offensive Guard, Pacfic
Shackelford was Cleveland’s fourth-round selection back in the 1964 NFL Draft but this was also in the era when the AFL still existed and Shackelford was also selected by the Denver Broncos with their sixth-round pick (41st overall) in the 1964 AFL Draft.
He opted to play for Denver and only appeared in eight games in his only professional football season. Cleveland went on to win the 1964 NFL Championship.
1980: Cleveland Crosby, Defensive End, Arizona

Crosby was Cleveland’s second-round selection in the 1980 NFL Draft. He never appeared in a game for the Browns and later played for the Baltimore Colts, appearing in nine games during the 1982 season recording zero tackles or sacks. Crosby tasted success in the USFL playing for the Houston Gamblers and piling up 13.5 sacks in two seasons for Houston.
